Oha, wer hätte das gedacht? Als ich die Meldung von Karsten heute bei Facebook las, konnte ich es kaum glauben. Doch es scheint Wirklichkeit zu sein. Die Inet GmbH, Betreiber des Affiliate Netzwerks Affiliwelt.net, hat Insolvenz beantragt.

Das hatte ich mir so schön vorgestellt. Ein Server der mit meinen Anforderungen zu skalieren ist, der mit meinen Projekten wächst und ein hohes Maß an Stabilität und Sicherheit mitbringt.
Doch schon beim ersten Stillstand des Servers hätten bei mir die Alarmglocken schrillen müssen. Aus der Administration heraus lies sich der Server nicht rebooten. Das Servieticket blieb über 24h stehen und man bot mir an das System zu wechseln, da das installierte System nicht das beste wäre. Nagut…
Zu dem Zeitpunkt waren 2 WP Blogs installiert, die zwar ordentlich Traffic hatten, doch nichts großartiges was einen meiner laufenden 08/15 VPS ins Schwitzen gebracht hätte.
Zu den 2 größeren Projekten gesellten sich noch 3 kleinere. Ich war skeptisch ob das CloudSystem halten würde und bekam recht.

Inzwischen ist die Administration wegen Wartungsarbeiten seit Tagen nicht mehr erreichbar und der Support arbeitet genauso langsam wie zu Beginn. Wieder wird mir ein Umzug “bald” angeboten:

Da war es schon wieder, diese hässliche Sonderzeichenkette “” in einer ziemlich einfachen html-Datei.
Nach einem Serverumzug fiel mir die erste Zeile der index-Datei auf, in der gleich ganz zu Anfang ein “” eingefügt war.

Da mir das schon einige Male aufgefallen war, machte ich mich auf die Suche danach woher die Zeichen kommen, denn im Editor waren sie nicht zu sehen.

Bei “toscho.design” gab’s für mich die Aufklärung und Lösung des Problems.
Editoren nutzen dieses erste Byte um die Kodierung zu speichen.
Und wie wird man es los?

1. Wenn Du Linux User bist und einen VIM am Start hast: :set nobomb
2. Windows User können sich den Notepad++ herunterladen und dort im Menü “Format »UTF-8 ohne BOM” zum Speichern verwenden. Fertig, und bei der Gelegenheit einen schicken, neuen Editor installiert!
